The Grid for Kids
Your grid determines how you see the world… and God wants you to see it through the Bible!
The Rock of Truth
Have you ever seen someone pan for gold or use a sifter at the beach? You pour a big pile of sand and rocks into a screen, shake it around, and all the tiny dirt particles fall through while the real treasures stay right on top. If you didn’t use a filter or grid, you would end up holding onto a bunch of useless mud instead of finding the awesome things hidden inside!
Every single day, your mind is bombarded with ideas from TV shows, YouTube videos, video games, and friends at school. Some of those ideas are great, but a lot of them are like dirty sand that can trick you into making bad choices. God wants us to build a “Bible grid” in our hearts so we can filter out the lies and hold onto what is actually real and good. The very first foundational rock of that grid is God’s Truth!
John 8:32 And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.
Building a Bible grid means taking the things you hear and comparing them to what God says in His Word. For example, if a video tells you that having the newest toys is the only way to be happy, you can run that through your truth grid! God’s Word tells us that true joy comes from loving Him and others, not from having a closet full of stuff. When you know the truth, you don’t get trapped by lies that make you feel jealous, angry, or left out.
Here is a super helpful mental life hack: whenever you hear a crazy idea or feel tempted to do something wrong, ask yourself, “Is this true according to the Bible?” If it doesn’t match what Jesus teaches, throw it out like dirty sand! When we fill our minds with God’s Word every day, we gain the ultimate superpower to make wise choices. The Rock of Love
Have you ever tried wearing a pair of super dark sunglasses inside the house? Everything looks dim, blurry, and hard to see. But when you take them off and put on the right pair of glasses, suddenly everything around you is clear and bright! The way you look at the world changes how you treat the people around you every single day.
When we build a Bible grid for our lives, the second foundational rock right after Truth is Love. Jesus gave us a simple rule to live by: love God first, and love others second. Having a love grid means seeing people through Jesus’ eyes instead of just focusing on ourselves. When we remember how much God loves us, it becomes way easier to share that same awesome love with everyone we meet!
John 13:34 So now I am giving you a new commandment: Love each other. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other.
Putting love into action isn’t always easy, especially when someone takes your favorite toy or picks on you at recess. Loving others doesn’t mean you just feel warm feelings inside; it means making active choices to be kind, patient, and helpful. It looks like inviting the kid sitting alone at lunch to join your game, letting your sibling pick the movie, or encouraging a teammate who made a mistake.

The Rock of Faith
Have you ever fallen off your bike, scraped your knee, or totally messed up a drawing and just wished you could press a giant “undo” button? It would be so awesome if we could get a complete do-over whenever we mess up! In real life, we all make mistakes and do wrong things that separate us from God, and no matter how hard we try, we can’t fix it on our own.
That is why God sent Jesus to give us the ultimate do-over! Faith is just a fancy word for trusting Jesus with your whole heart. When we place our trust in Him, Jesus forgives our sins and gives us a brand-new start—it’s what the Bible calls being “born again.” God doesn’t expect us to be perfect; He just wants us to trust Him as the strongest rock in our life grid.
John 3:16 For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.
Trusting Jesus isn’t just about knowing facts about the Bible in your head; it’s about relying on Him every single day. Just like you trust a chair to hold you up when you sit down, faith means leaning on Jesus when you feel scared, confused, or worried. It means knowing that His way is always best, even when doing the right thing feels hard.

It is so tempting to pretend you didn’t hear them, roll your eyes, or groan and drag your feet. When we want to keep having fun, following rules right away can feel like the hardest thing in the world.
When we build a Bible grid for our lives, one of the biggest foundational rocks is Obedience. Following rules isn’t just about avoiding getting into trouble; it’s actually the ultimate way we show God how much we love Him! God gave us parents, teachers, and leaders to protect us and guide us. When you choose to listen and obey them, you are actually obeying God and building a strong, happy life.
Ephesians 6:1 Children, obey your parents because you belong to the Lord, for this is the right thing to do.
Practicing obedience in real life means choosing fast obedience—doing what you are asked right away, without complaining or asking for “five more minutes.” Instead of waiting until your mom or dad asks you three times to put your shoes away, you can choose to win at life by hopping up and doing it on the very first try. Doing the right thing with a good attitude shows everyone that you are growing up and following Jesus.

The Rock of Grace
Have you ever been playing a game of tag on the playground and accidentally knocked someone over, or accidentally broke your sibling’s favorite toy? In that exact moment, your heart drops into your stomach, and you feel super nervous waiting to see how mad they’re going to get. When we mess up, we usually expect to get yelled at, punished, or left out of the fun.
Instead of giving us what we deserve when we mess up, God does something totally unexpected—He gives us grace! Grace is a fancy word for getting a gift or kindness that we didn’t earn and don’t deserve. When we build a Bible grid for our lives, Grace is one of the most amazing rocks of all. God doesn’t shame us or make us feel bad when we make mistakes; instead, He forgives us and wraps us up in His super big love!
Ephesians 2:8 God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God.
Because Jesus gives us a giant bucket of grace every day, He expects us to pass that grace along to the people around us! Giving grace in real life means being kind and forgiving when someone else messes up or hurts your feelings. It looks like saying “It’s okay, I forgive you!” when a classmate spills water on your drawing, or choosing not to yell when a teammate drops the ball during gym class.
Here is a total life hack for your heart: whenever someone bugs you or makes a mistake, pause and ask yourself, “If I got grace from God, how can I give grace right now?” Choosing forgiveness instead of staying mad is how you win at life! Let’s make it our mission this week to show Jesus’ love by being super quick to give grace to everyone we meet!
