The Bible teaches that when we pursue God, we’ll really have a purpose in life. But what does that mean for a kid? It means that we’ll serve God by being the best helpers we can be.
Jesus came to serve.
Jesus is God. He created the whole world! That means he’s the boss – but he wasn’t bossy! One time, when he was having a meal with his disciples, he did something really surprising. He started washing their feet! Back in that day, that was one of the dirtiest jobs! His disciples were really surprised, because they didn’t think he should have to do that.
John 13:12-17 After washing their feet, he put on his robe again and sat down and asked, “Do you understand what I was doing? You call me ‘Teacher’ and ‘Lord,’ and you are right, because that’s what I am. And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. I have given you an example to follow. Do as I have done to you.
We should be helpers, too.
If we’re following Jesus, we should act like Jesus! That means we shouldn’t walk around being bossy and selfish. We should be helpers. We should be willing to do things that aren’t always fun or easy:
- Being nice to our brothers and sisters
- Helping around the house
- Helping other kids or teachers at school
Jesus chose for us to live with purpose.
Every kid who knows Jesus was chosen by Jesus, like getting picked for a team at recess. He wants you on his team! And he has a job for you: to serve others! Are you willing to play your part?
John 15:16 You didn’t choose me. I chose you. I appointed you to go and produce lasting fruit….
