We’re starting a new series today and it’s all about the life of Jesus. Did you know that Jesus is the most important person you could ever know? We learn all about Him in the Bible. His life started on Christmas when He was born in a manger. But, did you know that Jesus grew up to fulfill a very important mission? The mission was to die on the cross to save us from our sins. Before He went to the cross, He traveled from city to city for about 3 years teaching and performing miracles to show the people that He was not just a man, but that He was the Son of God! This week, we’ll look at His baptism. This was an important event that started Jesus’ ministry. When He was baptized, the voice of God spoke to everyone saying, “This is my Son with whom I am well pleased.” The people heard God and understood that Jesus was special. The act of baptism also pointed to what Jesus would ultimately do for us by dying and rising again. Our baptism is a special moment, too. When we get baptized, we are proclaiming that we belong to Jesus and that we believe that He died for our sins so that we could live a new life in Him. If you haven’t been baptized, talk to your parents about it or even your kids church teacher to find out if you’re ready to be baptized.

Key Points:

  • John the Baptist didn’t want to baptize Jesus, because he didn’t feel worthy. Matthew 3:13-14
  • Jesus wanted to get baptized to be a good example for us. Matthew 3:15
  • Baptism is a really important symbol that helps us remember what Jesus did on the cross. Romans 6:4

Memory Verse:

Romans 6:4 And just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glorious power of the Father, now we also may live new lives.
