Have you ever seen someone pan for gold or use a sifter at the beach? You pour a big pile of sand and rocks into a screen, shake it around, and all the tiny dirt particles fall through while the real treasures stay right on top. If you didn’t use a filter or grid, you would end up holding onto a bunch of useless mud instead of finding the awesome things hidden inside!
Every single day, your mind is bombarded with ideas from TV shows, YouTube videos, video games, and friends at school. Some of those ideas are great, but a lot of them are like dirty sand that can trick you into making bad choices. God wants us to build a “Bible grid” in our hearts so we can filter out the lies and hold onto what is actually real and good. The very first foundational rock of that grid is God’s Truth!
John 8:32 And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.
Building a Bible grid means taking the things you hear and comparing them to what God says in His Word. For example, if a video tells you that having the newest toys is the only way to be happy, you can run that through your truth grid! God’s Word tells us that true joy comes from loving Him and others, not from having a closet full of stuff. When you know the truth, you don’t get trapped by lies that make you feel jealous, angry, or left out.
Here is a super helpful mental life hack: whenever you hear a crazy idea or feel tempted to do something wrong, ask yourself, “Is this true according to the Bible?” If it doesn’t match what Jesus teaches, throw it out like dirty sand! When we fill our minds with God’s Word every day, we gain the ultimate superpower to make wise choices. Let’s make it our mission this week to stand firm on God’s truth and show Jesus’ love to everyone around us!
