Snapshot (6-8 min)
Get started by watching the lesson video as a group. In this lesson through Mark 1:21-28, we learn that Jesus has ultimate authority because He is the Son of God, the Creator, and the source of all truth. Students will see that Jesus didn’t just teach with authority—He proved it by commanding an evil spirit to obey Him, challenging each of us to decide whose voice will have the final say in our lives.
Icebreaker (5-10 min)
Influencer Ranking: Have the students split into small groups of 3–5 people. Tell each group to rank the influences below from most influential to least influential in the average middle schooler’s life today. Give them 2-3 minutes to do this and feel free to give them a piece of paper to write down their answers on.
- Friends
- Parents
- Teachers
- Social media creators
- Athletes/celebrities
- Music
- Jesus and The Bible
Once you’ve ranked them, have each group share:
- Which one probably has the biggest influence in real life? (Their top answer)
- Which one should have the biggest influence?
- Why don’t those always match?
Transition: We all give authority to someone. The question is who. One day, every knee will bow and every tongue will confess that Jesus is Lord. On that day, everyone will recognize what has always been true: Jesus has the ultimate authority over everything and everyone.
Highlights (10 min)

Read through the questions one at a time and discuss them as a group. Encourage everyone to participate, listen well, and share honestly. This is an opportunity to learn from God’s Word and from one another.
