Snapshot (6-8 min)
Get started by watching the lesson video as a group. In this lesson, we’re doing a character study on Noah, one of the Bible’s greatest examples of faith and obedience. Noah lived in a culture that had rejected God, yet he chose to trust Him even when it was unpopular and didn’t make sense to everyone else. His story challenges us to stand firm in our faith, no matter what the world around us is doing. Most importantly, Noah’s ark points us to Jesus, the one who rescues us from sin and offers us new life.
Icebreaker (5-10 min)
Flood Survival Draft: Start by asking students this question: “A flood is coming. You can only bring THREE non-essential items on the ark. What are you choosing?” Give them a second to think, then go around the room and have them share their lists and explain why.
Examples:
- Favorite Book
- A Bag of Chips
- Video Game
Transition: Noah couldn’t bring everything he wanted. Following God often means trusting Him more than our possessions.
Highlights (10 min)
Take turns reading the talking points and Scripture passages aloud. These points help summarize the lesson and give students key takeaways for the day. Have students read the talking points and verses.
- Noah stood out because he chose to walk with God, even when everyone else was going the opposite direction. Genesis 6:9
- Real faith means trusting God enough to obey Him, even when we don’t understand everything. Genesis 6:22
- God is both perfectly just and incredibly merciful. The rainbow reminds us of His promise and faithfulness. Genesis 9:13
- The ark rescued Noah’s family from the flood, and Jesus rescues everyone who trusts in Him from sin. 1 Peter 3:20-21
- Following Jesus sometimes means choosing God’s approval instead of trying to fit in with everyone else. Hebrews 11:7
Unpack (25 min)
Read through the questions one at a time and discuss them as a group. Encourage everyone to participate, listen well, and share honestly. This is an opportunity to learn from God’s Word and from one another.
- What part of today’s lesson stood out to you the most? Why?
- Noah lived differently than everyone around him. What are some situations at school where it’s hard to stand for what you know is right?
- Noah spent years building the Ark before a single drop of rain fell. What is something God has asked you to do (or stop doing) that feels like it’s taking forever to see the “why” behind it?
- How can Christian friends encourage each other when following Jesus feels difficult or unpopular?
- How do we balance being “preachers of righteousness” (sharing our faith) without coming across as judgmental or “holier-than-thou” to our friends?
- Jesus is the only one who can save us from sin. How can remembering that truth change the way you face temptation and pressure this week?
- What is one “small act of obedience” you could do this week?
