How Joseph Rose to the Top

Bad things can happen to good people, but God will always get his way. That’s what Joseph learned in Egypt.

In today’s lesson, we’re going to learn more about Joseph and his life in Egypt. Remember, Joseph was the favorite child of Jacob and he had his fancy robe to prove it. Out of jealousy, Joseph’s brothers sold him into slavery in Egypt. Now, that alone makes for a bad day. But, things got even worse for Joseph. He ended up living in the home of Potiphar, an Egyptian officer who had a lot of power. Potiphar’s wife decided to cause trouble for Joseph and ended up spreading lies about him and Joseph was sent to prison. Another bad day. But, God was working through all of these situations in Joseph’s life and he had a plan. While in prison, God gave Joseph the ability to interpret the meaning of dreams. This skill came to the attention of Pharaoh, the ruler of all Egypt. Pharaoh was having some strange dreams and wanted to know what they meant. Joseph was able to interpret the dreams which were a warning about a future famine in the land where all the food would be gone. So, Pharaoh put Joseph in charge of the food and ended up being second in command in Egypt! Kids, let’s learn from this story. Bad things will happen but God can use the bad things and turn them into good things.
