Responsibility is all about taking care of your own stuff.

In today’s lesson, we’re going to talk about responsibility. Maybe you’ve heard your parents or teachers use that word when you forgot to do your homework or you left your backpack at the park. Being responsible means that you are in charge of your own actions and stuff. Now, when you were babies, your parents didn’t tell you to be responsible. You were just a baby! You couldn’t talk or walk or do anything for yourself. But, as you’ve gotten older, you’ve learned to be more in charge of yourself. You’ve learned to brush your own teeth, make your bed, put your toys away and get your homework done. Doing those those things have taught you responsibility. But, being responsible isn’t just about how you take care of your stuff. Responsibility is also about how you choose to act. God wants you to take charge of your behavior, too. He wants you to be obedient, kind, forgiving and helpful. But you have to choose to do those things. And, if you don’t take responsibility for your actions, you’ll make bad choices and get into trouble. Kids, learn how to be responsible as you grow up. Take care of your stuff and take care of your actions and life will go well for you!

  1. What’s your favorite part of the video? What’s one thing you learned from it?
  2. What can babies do for themselves? What about toddlers? What can you do for yourself?
  3. Why can’t babies take care of themselves? Why do toddlers need to learn some rules as they begin to move around?
  4. What are some of your responsibilities at school? Do your teachers expect more from you as you go up a grade from year to year? Explain.
  5. Read 1 Corinthians 13:11. What are some examples of behaviors you did as a baby or a toddler that you wouldn’t do today? What are some behaviors you do today that you won’t do when you become an adult? Why?
  6. How will you apply this lesson to your life this week?
